Friends of QMC have funded some SWAN room furniture.

The SWAN model of care represents gold-standard end of life care across the NUH hospitals. It focuses on providing extra attention and care for patients friends and family and such a very difficult time.

SWAN rooms

In order to provide friends and family with a comfortable, private space, a number of SWAN rooms have been created. These rooms are aimed at allowing friends and relatives of palliative patients a place for privacy. A place where they can be comfortable and alone whilst not being too far from their loved one.

A new SWAN room has been created on F floor, West block in the Queens Medical Centre.

The new room

The room has been repurposed and decorated by the Palliative care team, however, they were not able to furnish it.

The Friends of QMC were approached for support and were delighted to provide funding for this furniture.

Furniture

With our help, furniture and lighting were purchased in order to make the room comfortable.

Rooms such as this are so very important. Often used by medical staff to break difficult news. Providing privacy, peace, and a chance for relatives and friends to ‘escape’ the busy hospital for a while.

Making a difference

The Friends of QMC exists purely to help the patients, carers and staff of the Queens Medical Centre. Projects such as this are immensely important and make a real difference to people. We were so please to be able to provide SWAN room furniture.

We can only do this due to the generosity of the public. You can help by supporting us.
